INDIVIDUALS

I help people make changes in their lives. Some people feel unsure about how to start this process, so I can help get them begin taking the first steps. I work in concert with my clients to give them opportunities to safely and comfortably share whatever is on their minds, and I provide guidance, insights, and support.

COUPLES

I have helped many couples find better and more constructive ways to communicate. It is vital that each person within the relationship feels heard and understood. I also help couples address their need for more intimacy, and greater feelings of emotional safety, honesty, and acceptance in every aspect of their relationship.

FAMILIES

Families are complex systems. They have the potential to be damaging, polarizing, and tense. They also have the potential to be opportunities for joy, sweetness, support and strength. If there is something you feel your family is in need of in order to help it become stronger, healthier and happier, let me know. I’m happy to help.

I have a new book out about divorce.

It is written through the eyes of children. In a lighthearted way, it offers the reader comprehensive information about the familial, social and psychological needs of children during this time of transition. Children, parents, and professionals will all find it a useful guide. It is also written specifically to be inclusive and is appropriate for all types of families.

My Approach

I was trained in Structural Family Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Psychodynamic and Existential Therapy. While it is important
to be aware of various styles of treatment that could be helpful for each client individually, I believe a responsible clinician is flexible in his or her approach so that it fits the client’s wishes and needs rather than needing the client to adapt to and accept the clinician’s style of treatment.

In addition, when one member of a family, or couple, is sent to me for help, I find it most useful to meet with the couple or family as a whole on a number of occasions. I see issues in a systemic way,
and find it often serves everyone’s needs best when they can see how they trigger behaviors and reactions in
each other instead of one person being sent to me as “the problem”.

TESTIMONIALS

Our son is on the Autistic Spectrum, and our daughter loves her brother but gets short changed a lot. We brought her to Rachel so she could get the support she needed as the siblings of someone who has special needs. We also learned, through coming in a few times ourselves, that our daughter had her own special needs because of this that we could learn to respond to and take better care of.

Jonathan & Kim

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
