Ron Noble and I sent letters back and forth before and after the tragic fire at the Branch Davidian compound. David Koresh was a dangerous man who believed he was the Messiah, and had no qualms about killing himself and his followers just to prove the point that the government had no dominion over him. I treated some of the family members of those who died, and treated some of the followers who escaped just before the fire to try to get help for their loved ones still locked inside when they could tell things were escalating.
Nobody won the fight that ensued between David Koresh and the ATF. The only good that came out of it was that the government learned to handle these clashes differently and the public learned what can potentially happen when you follow a self-appointed “Messiah”.

Texas dept of family and protective services
I was flown to Texas to help guide the Social Workers who were working with the women and children who were temporarily taken off the FLDS Polygamous compound for their own safety. It was a difficult time for all involved, but the cult members had a chance to experience the world while they were out: the children had a chance to learn how to laugh and play, the women had a chance to find out how they deserved to be treated, and they all learned that the outside world was not a place to be feared. I hope they remember these important messages…
